What kinds of Daiwa fishing rod and reel accessories does TackleWest stock?

We stock a range of Daiwa fishing rod accessories including handle sets, knobs made of cork, TPE, and carbon fibre, as well as specialised handles and knobs made for specific reels.

Knobs

Made from top-quality natural cork, cork knobs are lightweight, comfortable, have higher heat retention and provide non-slip performance.

Carbon fibre knobs offer 7-9 times the same strength when compared to steel, while only weighing a quarter of the weight of steel. They provide supreme grip even when wet so you don’t miss out on that catch.

Other knobs we stock are made from TPE and a reinforced nylon skeleton, which has a long service life as it does not wear as fast as other knobs. It is also environmentally friendly.

Our Daiwa Saltiga knobs feature a reflective shine finish and are ideal for jigging and casting. We stock the round and egg-shaped knobs.

Handles

Compared to genuine handles, our Daiwa handle sets increase the leverage of your reel, creating more power when fighting and providing rattle-free usability.

How do I keep my fishing reels in top condition?

Reel maintenance is critical to ensure your equipment works properly. Dirt, grime, water, and weather exposure can all harm the moving parts of a reel, which are key to a smooth application. Reel grease helps your reel last longer by inhibiting rust and saltwater corrosion, ensuring the gears run smoothly and quietly.

Reels function due to bearings and gears that must be lubricated, especially if the equipment is used heavily and frequently. Bearings use oil to lubricate fast-moving parts that require less friction, whereas grease protects and coats slower-moving reel parts that interlock with one another, like gears.

Below is a general step-by-step guide to maintaining your fishing reels. Depending on the environment you fish and the kind of gear you use, this process may differ. For specific maintenance instructions refer to the manufacturer.

  1. Ensure the outside of the reel is clean of dirt and grime. By keeping the exterior clean, you ensure important inner workings remain free from outside elements that could cause serious damage. Avoid using soap or degreasers as these can cause damage to the reel parts or leave residue. Make sure to use a specialised cleaning solution for fishing reels.
  2. Disassemble your reel. Some reels have easy-access maintenance ports to apply lubricant, but disassembly is required for thorough maintenance. Label each part of your reel and pay close attention to the assembly of the reel.
  3. Clean the inner workings of the reel if they are dirty. Adding lubricant will not fix the buildup of dirt, as oil and grease need clean surfaces to work properly. Use a non-abrasive cleaning tool to gently remove grime or debris. Make sure to use a specialised cleaning solution for fishing reels.
  4. Apply grease to the gears. Using grease and oil for specific parts will ensure your reel works correctly. Never mix grease and oil in your bearings or gears. Make sure to remove any excess.
  5. Oil the bearings - just a drop or two will do.
  6. Make your way through each part to reassemble the reel. Apply oil to every moving part as you put it together, including the handle and knob.
  7. Finally, complete the assembly and ensure the reel is put back together properly. Each part should move smoothly when put to use.
