Frequently Asked Questions

Which YETI Cooler should I buy?

Whether you’re browsing for an upcoming fishing or camping trip, you’ll find something worth the investment and one that will last you season after season.

If you’re looking for a high-quality, durable ice cooler to keep in one place (whether that be a day fishing or camping trip, the back of a boat on a hot summer day, or even at home), then the YETI Tundra hard coolers may be for you. If you’re looking for a portable, reliable cooler that you can take on the go, we recommend the YETI Roadie hard coolers and Hopper Flip soft coolers.

How do I clean my YETI Cooler?

To keep your YETI Cooler clean, use mild dish soap and water. Rinse your cooler with water then thoroughly wipe the inside dry with a cloth or paper towel. For tougher stains, a mixture of baking soda and water will do. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.

How long can a YETI cooler keep ice?

YETI coolers can keep ice for several days, but this ultimately depends on the model, usage, and environmental conditions. Ensuring proper pre-cooling and minimising lid opening can help to maximise ice retention.

How do I keep my YETI Cooler cold for longer?

Here are some useful tips that YETI recommends to extend the cooling time for your YETI cooler:

  • Start with a Chilled Cooler: If stored in warm places, the ice will be wasted cooling the cooler itself. It is recommended to preload your cooler a few hours before use with a sacrificial bag of ice to cool it down or store it in a cool place before loading it up.

  • Ratio ⅔ Ice and ⅓ Contents: Ensuring you use enough ice is key. YETI recommends following a ⅔ ice, ⅓ contents ratio. This means one-third of your cooler holds your beverages and food, while the other two-thirds should be filled with ice. The more ice you use, the longer it will last.

  • Using the Right Temperature Ice: Warm ice (around 0°C) is typically wet or dripping and won’t last long, even inside a cooler. Ice colder than its freezing point, such as from a freezer, is relatively dry and will last substantially longer.

  • Block Ice vs. Cube Ice: Smaller, cubed ice will chill a cooler and its contents more quickly, but block ice melts at a much slower rate. Using a mix can help chill cold items and achieve long-term ice retention, keeping the cooler cold the longest.

  • Air is the Enemy: Large areas of air inside your cooler will accelerate the rate your ice melts, as the ice is consumed with having to cool the air instead of your contents. Extra space is best filled with extra ice, towels, or crumpled newspaper if weight is a concern.

  • Don’t Drain the Water: Once your cooler is in use, DO NOT empty the cold water. This water helps to insulate the remaining ice, however, exposed food and beverages should be kept out of the water.

  • Avoid Direct Sunlight: Keep your cooler out of direct sunlight when possible, as ice can last up to twice as long in the shade. Some use towels or tarps to cover the cooler when they can’t find a shaded spot.

  • Limit Cooler Access: Each time the cooler is opened the cold air inside is exchanged for warm air outside that must then be cooled, causing the ice to melt faster.

  • Dry Ice is Best (Hard Coolers Only): The YETI Tundra and Roadie hard coolers are dry ice compatible, however the YETI Hopper soft coolers are not. Using dry ice with your YETI hard cooler can keep food and drinks cold and frozen longer than regular ice.
